Amazon and Microsoft have joined hands with each other which means that now users can access the Cortana's functionality using Alexa and vice versa. Recently, the competition in voice assistant market has increased with so many companies coming up with their own software. There are many users who use Google Assistant on Android device or Apple Siri on iOS, Cortana on PC. Samsung also joined the competition with its own AI Bixby.

This partnership will mean that the users will be able to do things like buy groceries on Amazon using Cortana or use Microsoft Office integrations from Alexa . Users will have to just say, “Alexa, open Cortana” or “Cortana, open Alexa”. This feature is expected to arrive later this year.

If we carefully analyze both the AI assistant, we will realize that this partnership will add many new cool features to both the Alexa and Cortana. Cortana will receive all Alexa’s skill and it is already compatible with a large number of devices. For Amazon, they will be able to reach a number of customers as there are a large number of Windows PC users. Alexa users will soon be able to access information like viewing upcoming calendar events, reading work emails, setting reminders and much more.

Microsoft is also planning to launch Cortana enabled speaker later this year. This could be the possible reason why Microsoft wanted to join hands with Amazon so that it can allow users to order things from Amazon.
